Nissan has been making its way into the world of SUVs for quite some time now, and they finally made some progress in recent years. As for the brand-new Nissan Pathfinder 2016, it’s a bit outdated and tech-shy option, but still a good pick on the market of 3-row SUVs. Back in 2013 this model let go of the truck-influenced construction platform and switched it for a more family-friendly, civilized and up-to-date architecture – the unibody, that’s partially based on the friendly Altima mid-size sedan. So, the latest edition boasts a smoother ride quality, a mighty V6 engine and a well-thought, nicely trimmed and cozy interior/cabin. Since the Pathfinders debut back in the day a lot has happened, and the competition is stiffer than ever, given the fact that SUVs (along with trucks) are the best-sellers and profit-makers in the automobile industry. Still, this good-looking and capable SUV stands its own and remains one of the best out there.
Nissan Pathfinder 2016 – No Standard Bluetooth Or USB
Build quality, materials and finishing on the inside are well above average for the class. As for the technological features/safety equipment, the Nissan Pathfinder 2016 offers quite a competitive bunch of tech, although some of those come packed only with the higher trim levels (higher means pricier). To be honest, some of the features should most definitely come standard, like Bluetooth connection (it’s not available with the entry-level S trim; and you won’t be able to stream audio unless you go for the SL or the Premium levels). I’m not saying that you won’t be able to enjoy the latest Pathfinder without Bluetooth or USB (yep, you won’t get that as standard feature either), but even the cheapest compact crossovers provide the customers with that kind of stuff. Now, speaking of the weak sides, let me also tell you that in terms of cargo capacity this SUV lags behind the pack (it’s below average for the segment), even though the exterior dimensions are pretty large.
Powertrain Specs And Fuel-Economy
As for the powertrain, the Nissan Pathfinder 2016 comes packed with a decent 3.5-lit V6 that’s good for 260 Horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired to CVT (continuously variable transmission) and can be FWD (front-wheel drive) or AWD (all-wheel drive) – the choice is yours. The AWD-equipped edition goes from zero to 60 miles per hour in 8 seconds sharp, which is pretty cool for the class. Fuel-economy is decent as well: the SUV returns 27 miles per gallon on the highway and 20MPG in the city (23MPG combined) with AWD and 22MPG combined with FWD (26MPG hwy/19MPG city). Properly equipped, this car can tow anything up to 5K; so, keep that in mind if you’re a fan of family camps out in the wild. Generally, in terms of powertrain, the Pathfinder looks pretty good.
Nissan Pathfinder 2016 – Old, But Still Holding On
To tell the truth, the Nissan Pathfinder 2016 is old news today, as the once-fresh unibody is nothing to be surprised about, and the market is full of brand-new, up-to-date, more practical, more flexible and better-driving cars that just do almost everything better. Honda Pilot is probably the best pick in the segment – it’s been redesigned for 2016 and looks and feels better than ever. Toyota’s Highlander is the closest second, with exceptional efficiency, generous interior room, cargo capacity and all kinds of technological features. The Pathfinder is a good pick, no doubt about it: you’ve got seating for seven, 4 trim levels to choose from (S, SV, SL, Platinum) and tons of flexibility, but why go with “good” when you can go with great or even exceptional, you know what I’m saying?
