Chevy is going all in lately: in 2014 we got a fully redesigned Impala (the company’s flagship full-size sedan); in 2015 Malibu, the mid-sizer, also went through some significant changes. And now, in 2016, it’s finally time for the Cruze to transform. Basically, in terms of design, we’ve got a brand-new car: on the exterior the styling is sharp, edgy and even a bit sporty, nothing like what we used to see in the previous editions. On the inside the Cruze boasts better material/finishing quality and all kinds of up-to-date technological features and safety equipment. The bottom line is, if you’re in the market for a prime small sedan, then there’s nothing better in 2016 that the latest Chevrolet Cruze. That fresh look with sleek curves and a strong attitude is one of a kind. And trust me, it’s a pretty awesome ride. By the way, the old edition is still available at dealerships all over the United States under the name Cruze Limited, so, if you – for some unknown reason – don’t really like the new design, you’re more than welcome to go with the old ways.
Chevrolet Cruze 2016 – Powertrain Specs
Under that beautiful hood the Chevrolet Cruze 2016 packs a turbocharged 1.4-lit 4-cylinder; in the old models this engine was optional, while the new version comes standard with it; besides, in 2016 you get a bonus of a driving a much more lighter car – in a year the Chevy sedan managed to drop 250 pounds, and so, it’s now 15-HP and 29-torque stronger. Overall the 4-cyl unit is capable of 153 Horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, which is standard for the majority of trims, while a 6-speed automatic is optional. The ultimate trim – Premier – comes standard with the automatic transmission. As for fuel-efficiency, the latest Cruze returns 40 miles per gallon on those highways and for a starting price-tag of 16.6K that’s a pretty sweat deal, if you ask me. The 4-cylinder is the only available engine, but the truth is, if you’re after a small sedan, you’re not really hungry for a mighty V6 or a V8, right?
Improved Interior Comfort
Another great fact about the Chevrolet Cruze 2016 is that the interior is now more spacious, with more leg- and head-room, especially in those back seats, which kinda was the biggest downside to the previous editions. In terms of tech savvy the Cruze is keeping up with the rest of the General Motors bunch and comes standard with the MyLink interface (used to be optional back in the day), which is a pretty awesome piece of software and is quicker, more user-friendly and fun than last year. When it comes to flexibility and versatility, the brand-new Chevy Cruze 2016 is all about options: you’ve got 4 trims to choose from, including the entry-level L, the LS, the LT and the ultimate Premier. With the standard model you’ll get 15-inch steel wheels, folding back seats (for additional cargo space), air conditioning, a rearview camera, a 4-speaker sound-system, Bluetooth/USB connections and a 7-inch touchscreen.
The LS, LT & The Premier Trims
The LS trim is pretty much identical, except it can be equipped with automatic transmission and a few carpeted floor mats. Going up the ladder we’ve got the LT trim, which offers 16-inch (alloy) wheels, cruise control, a 6-speaker sound-system, satellite radio, LED running lights, and more. For this one you’ve got the Convenience package available that adds keyless ignition/entry, remote engine start, heated front seats, and more. The highest trim – the Chevrolet Cruze 2016 Premier – gets all that plus 17-inch alloy wheels, a fine-tuned suspension, leather upholstery, et cetera, et cetera. In addition, you’ll get to pick between 3 optional packages (or, you can go with all 3), including the RS Appearance pack (18-inch wheels, a sportier body kit), the Driver Confidence pack (blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, rear parking sensors, etc) and the Enhanced Convenience (automatic climate control, a 110volt power outlet, heated back seats, and more). So, at the end of the day the latest Cruze is one awesome car.
